Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock and Customize iPhone 1.1.2 the Easy way (so far)!!

Well, now that 1.1.2 is released for quite some time now – why is the world not abuzz about upgrading to it? Mostly because – there is no reason to! Some say 1.1.2 sports better battery life while others say the iPhone performs faster (did it ever under perform?)!! For whatever reason, if you want to upgrade to the latest and still enjoy all the features (including unlock!!).Activating an iPhone 1.1.2 without iTunes is really a big deal because INdependence doesn’t support 1.1.2 yet and iDemocracy wasted some valuable hours due to poor or insufficent documentation! He did a great job with .Net F/W 3.5 but the app itself is too complicated – well Windows users have no other choice when it comes to 1.1.2.So, my current setup : iPhone 8GB, Cingular sim (no iPhone contract), Macbook (Leopard), 1.1.2 Jailbreak s/w from Conceited S/W, iTunes 7.4.2 and lots of patience 😉

  1. Assuming your iPhone is up and running on 1.1.1 with installer.app on it. Not on 1.1.1 yet, check this fastest guide now!
  2. (If you unlocked your iPhone using anySIM, please Virginize your iPhone before updating. It can easily be done by using unlocking tools from i.unlock.no. Just hit virginize for your firmware).
  3. Now, install OktoPrep under Tweaks 1.1.1 section in installer.app to prepare your iPhone to 1.1.2.
  4. Now update your iPhone to 1.1.2 from iTunes as usual. Don’t hit Restore, hit update instead 🙂 Don’t worry about any errors it spits out. If update fails, just see if your iPhone still has firmware 1.1.1 and OktoPrep installed (Very Imp). Then proceed with update from iTunes. (It should work this time).
  5. If your iPhone is still shown in Restore mode, then launch iNdependence 1.2.5 to kick the iPhone out of it.Your iPhone is updated to 1.1.2 if your iPhone shows the new activation screen with Emergency calls slider written in 3 different languages.
  6. Now comes the Jailbreak step which was complicated till now. Not anymore. Conceited Software made it so easy with the latest release of jailbreak software. All you have to do is launch jailbreak.jar and relax! Follow the on-screen instructions (Reboot the iPhone when told and voila : Your iPhone is activated!!). There is a Windows.bat(present in the jailbreak software you downloaded before) for Windows users which I didn’t try.
  7. Now that your iPhone is activated, time to unlock it. You already have installer.app showing if you came this far. You can unlock your iPhone using iphone-elite’s version of anySIM.
  8. As far as customization is concerned, we already have installer.app and almost all the apps are reported to be working just fine with 1.1.2 (Customize has an option for 1.1.2 inbuilt). There you go, comment in case of jubiliant victories/failures 🙂

p.s : I spent long hours figuring out the right procedures for activation and stuff but my aim is to save others from wasting their time!! Please support Conceited software and iPhone Devs to continue this journey 🙂

    Hi everyone,

If you want to follow up on the iPhone dev team’s progress on cracking the new bootloader, you can do so by visiting their website: http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
Once the top right part turns green from yellow, you know they cracked it!

Also, if you have an iPhone, and can’t wait to unlock it until the next software hack, you can do a hardware hack, which requires you to use a special SIM (ie TurboSIM, stealthSIM, etc.) card, and reshaping your own SIM by cutting out a small piece and using the two SIMs together. I have read many success reports on OTB (preloaded 1.1.2) iPhones. The only issue with this method is, those special SIMs are way too expensive ($89+), you can google it and get quite a few sites selling this hardware.

I personally am going to wait until there is a safe and quick way to software unlock the 1.1.2 OTB iPhone. I have also read in many forums that the next firmware 1.1.3 would be much easier to unlock, again, that’s only a rumor. Hope this helps…

    Ralph,

1.02 to 1.1.2 is simple, check out the wiki guide or google it. If you follow all the instructions *completely* then everything should work. If it's not working then you aren't doing it right. Good luck!

    hey admin

I Finally got my iPhone, I followed everything above, I got to the part where I install the Oktoprep, i successfully installed and i got that special message, where it was prepared to UPDATE to 1.1.2, I updated via iTunes yes, UPDATE, not RESTORED, when I UPDATED the iphone to 1.1.2 I got the picture with the wire saying slide for emergency in 4 languages (including English). I ran Jailbreak.jar and when I click JAILBREAK, it says that it does not find my iphone connected…..but going back to that picture, should I see the picture of the world for activating or the wire that I am seeing now? Why did that happen, did I do something wrong? Or is there something wrong with the OKTOPREP patch file???? please respond, thanks a million admin…!!! 🙂

2 weeks ago I bought Iphone 1.1.2 in US…i able to unlock the phone but not the sim lock….

    Using Windows base…

2.Launch Ibrickr (launch from PC with iphone connected to PC)
    3.Install AppSnap (require Wifi connection)
    4.Install Oktoprep (require Wifi connection)
    5.Upgrade to 1.1.2 (require ITune – I’m using 7.5)
6.Jailbreak 1.1.2 (can use jailbreak.jar – require Java(launch from PC with iphone connected to PC))

ps. this is just summary how to get it done; after I gone through so many procedures that I got from websites. More details & getting the softwares just google it.

hey admin or anyone that can help, I have a 1.1.2 OTB iphone that i had unlocked by downgrading to 1.1.1 and using the “*#301#” method. The problem I’m having is that my att sim card will not work with it. It always says no service… is there something I skipped? Let me know! thanks in advance.

Man are you most of you people stupid. OTB 1.1.2 is NOT ABLE TO BE UNLOCKED YET! So quit asking about it!!

    Let me repeat that:

If you’ve accidentally upgraded to 1.1.2 you can downgrade and unlock successfully. BUT if, when you bought your unit, it was 1.1.2 Out Of the Box (OTB), then you’re SOL. You can jailbreak the unit (different than unlocking it) and use it with limited functionality, but YOU CANNOT UNLOCK 1.1.2 OTB Units YET.

GOT THAT? Now kindly stop asking about it.

    Gosh.

I have an otb iphone 1.1.2 and i used this website http://www.iphonesimfreer.com/jailbreak.html to downgrade to 1.1.1 and then jailbreak and upgrade to 1.1.2. so every thing is working except the actual unlock so the phone theres no way to unlock it yet right?

@ Ryan : Unfortunately there is no way to unlock OTB iPhones yet which is still due. The process in the link seems complicated though!! Anyways good luck and lets hope OTB unlock soon 🙂

Hey guyz!!! I purchased a OTB iphone with the new/ current 1.1.2 iphone software. It bites not having third party apps. and just a plain jane iphone. But never the less and numerous attempts of trial and error. I Jailbroke the iphone so i can have third party applications. Of course i have At&t service but i just wanted the applications to customize the phone the way i wanted. So for comfirmation the new software can be jailbroken. I know so cause i did it. Its great!!! peace out guyz!!

@ Paul : Congratulations! Actually you should have tried activating the iPhone without signing a contract!! You might have chosen a free phone first and then bought this iPhone if you wanted to sign a contract!! That will save some money 🙂

Anyways, I am happy for you!! We really like our iPhones!
