    Just to double check, by “preserves unlock capabilities” you mean that there is no baseband update, right? The baseband will remain unchanged, but you get the benefit of all the 2.2 features?

    Yep! Check for Modem firmware… if it is 02.11.07, we are fine! Any other number and we are screwed! (For 3G iPhones).

    I have AT&T jailbroken 2.1 iphone 3G 16GB. Should I use this firmware? (with possible unlock in future). ?? Can someone upload it somewhere else, it is so slow.

    Please check my other post for activated firmware.. If you are a legit iPhone user, you can use this firmware….

    (avoid slow speeds by clearing cookies and using a different browser with a different ip)

    subba : Yep, given that you pwned your firmware at 2.1, you can use this firmware 2.2 for legit iPhone users. If you don’t have an iPhone plan, check the other post which has activated firmware…..

    I have a 2.1 Rogers jailbroken iphone 3G. (which I jailbroke using QuickPwn)
    I downloaded “iPhone1_2_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore_ATT_1K.ipsw.001” from above & renamed the file to ipsw (simply deleted the 001 from the end, didn’t unzip or extract or use the freeware program you mentioned above to join the file or anything .. not sure what that meant), having done that it is now a “Apple Device Software Update File”. When I hit shift & press restore on itunes (itunes 8.0.2.20) – I can select the file – but then I pressed cancel.
    Because I want to make sure is it really that simple? Is there anything I’m missing? You are sure this will work with Rogers? Anyone else a Rogers customer here & used this file & it worked?

    100% sure…If you manage to brick it with this firmware, then you should stick to stock firmware and no jailbreaking!
