Update : Skype application crash issues on Jailbroken iPhones are now resolved. Launch Cydia and update!

Amidst much speculation, Skype for iPhone has been officially released. There used to be some alternatives to Skype till recently but none of those can be as good as an app from Skype themselves.

Frustratingly enough, Skype app is crash-prone, it crashes way too much at this stage. Cydia quickly released a Mobile Substrate patch to avoid repeated application crash issues. Launch Cydia and refresh it to find the update. I have used Skype on WiFi and it works amazingly great. Purchase US call out plan for $2.95 a month and forget about running out of those precious minutes! We have nothing to complain since it is FREE but it can be a pain to use it as a desktop-skype replacement. You can now call those 1800 numbers for free from Skype.

Calls can be routed only over WiFi since evil ATT wants to sell 3G calls to make more money! With so many WiFi hotspots around, you shouldn’t have a problem using it for calls but without a bug free update, it is not so practical!
