Download Custom Firmware 3.1.2 IPSW – Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS [Mac and Windows]

iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS users can now safely update to 3.1.2 firmware without updating the baseband (for unlock). If you are not the one to download all the various files and just want the ultimate result, these files are waiting for you to download! If you rather want to start from scratch, download Pwnage 3.1.4 tool for Mac.

  • Caution #1 : A restore is going to wipe the iPhone clean. Hence, please backup your iPhone using iTunes and then proceed.

More info about these custom firmware files :

  • Has factory boot logos (Apple and restore cable),
  • Only Cydia, No Icy
  • Preserved Unlock baseband (that is the whole point of a custom firmware, right?!)
  • Activated/Not Activated (Check the files carefully)

Prerequisite (recommended) :

If your iPhone is already jailbroken at the current firmware (3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1), it will be a hassle free upgrade! Restore mode will work just fine with already jailbroken iPhones.

Step 1.1) Download Files for iPhone 3GS (Please read the following carefully)

p.s : I am paying for these downloads (purchased RapidShare Download traffic due to overwhelming demand). Please consider donating to keep these downloads free and instantaneous. Thank you…

OR

Step 1.2) Download Files for iPhone 3G (Please read the following carefully)

OR

Step 1.3) Download Files for iPhone 2G (Please read the following carefully)

OR

Step 2) Join the downloaded files

  • The files downloaded above have an extension .001 and .002. They need a special opensource (free) software HJSplit to join.
  • Download HJSplit to join both the files – Link for Windows Computers here and Macs here.

Step 3) Restore the firmware in iTunes 9.x

  • You should now have the respective firmware file with an extension .ipsw (make sure it is .ipsw or else, it will give you an invalid firmware error) . Follow the steps in order :
  • 1)Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac / Windows computer.
  • 2)If your iPhone is already jailbroken (if you see Cydia on your iPhone!), put your device in Restore mode (Turn iPhone off, keep holding Home button while you plug it in to your computer). Proceed to step 7. If not jailbroken already, continue to the next step (3).
  • 3)If you are aware of DFU mode, proceed further. If not, watch this quick video and pay close attention to the steps to achieve DFU mode.
  • 4)Turn your iPhone off. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
  • 5)After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  • 6)The iPhone will show you a blank screen (black).
  • 7)Click on ‘Ok’ to the prompt displayed.
  • 8)For a Mac : Hold Option key and then hit Restore button.
  • 9)For Windows : Hold the shift key and then hit the restore button.
  • 10)In the dialog box that pops up, browse the downloaded custom firmware file (the .ipsw file that you downloaded and joined using hjsplit in step 1.x).

Step 4) Give it few minutes to perform the restore. Once the iPhone is up and running, proceed for software Unlock using Cydia. Follow this guide to install Ultrasn0w to software unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS. iPhone 2G is already unlocked with this custom firmware!

You are now good to go! Post a comment if you are stuck at any of the steps described above.

[Pwnage Tool is developed by the Dev Team. This is just a custom firmware file created using that tool especially for Windows users cos’ Pwnage tool is available only for Macs.]

    Hi,

I recently purchased an iPhone 3GS, Non-Activated 3.1.2, Baseband 5.11.07. Will the above steps jailbreak my phone? And will I be able to unlock using ultrasn0w?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, you cannot unlock.. Only jailbreak… Use this custom firmware here (activated)…

Hi, been reading posts, but still confused…I have 3GS, 3.0.1 OTB, and I'm on AT&T new contract for 2 years in California. So I downloaded the "Not Activated" first choice, right? I'm not getting the "Activated" or "Not Activated". Can you clarify? I will join the 2 files later and then restore in the morning. Thank you so much.

Yes, you need the NonActivated since you have a legal iPhone contract! Join them both and shift+Restore!

Ok, got that. Now just one last question: After I dfu+shift/restore, will the phone come back up factory fresh? I mean will it allow me to backup all of my info/music/apps/photos/etc? Or will I have to set up a new phone and start all over.

I'm also going to try on iphone 2g first as well, before taking the plunge.

Everything is wiped with the firmware. You have to restore from backup if you need all the data. Make a backup (sync in iTunes) before you do anything with the iPhone!

Does it matter if I have a sim chip inserted while restoring with the custom fw?

Just did it but iphone 2g is stuck with the plug into itunes graphic after rebooting. I did the not activated but with the t-mobile chip inserted.

You should do activated firmware with T-Mobile, notactivated is for ATT…

Yes, I figured that's where I screwed up, so I put in the AT&T and tried it again. this time, it finished then booted up and asked me to reactivate phone with at&t. the scrfeen was on recovery mode the whole time. so i went through the motion of activating but then when it was trying tro verify account, it came back and said cannot verify account, take phone to apple store.

i got frustrated so i am running redsn0w. its been on the screen with the hard drive saying download jailbreak data for bout 8 min. also i chose the 3.0 ipsw cuz it didnt take anything else. hhheeelllppp!

well so you don't have iPhone contract, is it?

            You have a Mac?

No, do have AT&T contract, 2 of them as a matter of fact. Using Vista home 32 bit…for some reason, I just thought that on the 2g, since the custom fw unlocks the phone anyways, I could just restore with the at&t version…but I did do a restore with my at&t chip inserted, and it completed but itunes wanted to set up the account again! Then it told me that the account couldn't be verified…at any rate, I'm downloading the other version of the custom fw (tmobile) and going to try that…

Is there anything else I should try?

Never mind…did the dfu thing and then went to delete the device support file and then….BAM! it worked and even asked to use the proper backup file to set up the phone again…I've been practicing with the 2g…maybe I'll get up enough guts to try the 2 3Gs we have…btw, will this fw have the mms settings straight?

Yeah, MMS settings are carrier dependent. You have to manually configure them in settings -> general-> network ..

Ok, so the 2G worked finally…and now I'm trying the 3GS..but I keep getting this "error 1604 cannot restore" issue. I'm at&t contract, with activated sim inserted and using not activated ipsw file, joined with the proper ipsw extension.

            What should I do?

never jailbroken brand new. Tried both restore and DFU modes…DFU mode (screen blank) gives error 1600; restore mode (screen with logo and plug) gives error 1604…

Now phone is dead, nothing works and can't bring it out of any mode. Tried 2 different computers. Please help, maybe just to get it out of the dfu/restore modes and up and working again, even on 3.0.1. Thanks

THANKS MATE FOR REPLY.SORRY FOR MORE QUESTIONS,- SO, I SHOULD NOT TO UPGRADE MY FIRMWARE THROUGH THE ITUNES TO 3.1.2. JUST JAILBREAK ( BECAUSE I DON'T NEED UNLOCK) MY 3GS 3.0.1, AND THEN RESTORE THROUGH THE ITUNES (SHIFT+RESTORE) TO CUSTOM NonActivated FIRMWARE. DID I UNDERSTOOD RIGHT?
        AGAIN THANKS!

Yeah, you don't have to worry about baseband for iPhone 2G. You should have tried Restore mode instead of DFU. Try Restore mode.

The main purpose behind a custom firmware is to preserve baseband (for unlock) and Jailbreak. Only other thing you have to do is Unlock on your own (Cydia)…

After blackra1n don't work Youtube and Google Maps you must install push fix form Cydia. Sometimes after blackra1n WiFi don't work and you must reset network settings. Pwnagetool is better option.
