Download Custom Firmware 3.1.2 IPSW – Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS [Mac and Windows]

iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS users can now safely update to 3.1.2 firmware without updating the baseband (for unlock). If you are not the one to download all the various files and just want the ultimate result, these files are waiting for you to download! If you rather want to start from scratch, download Pwnage 3.1.4 tool for Mac.

  • Caution #1 : A restore is going to wipe the iPhone clean. Hence, please backup your iPhone using iTunes and then proceed.

More info about these custom firmware files :

  • Has factory boot logos (Apple and restore cable),
  • Only Cydia, No Icy
  • Preserved Unlock baseband (that is the whole point of a custom firmware, right?!)
  • Activated/Not Activated (Check the files carefully)

Prerequisite (recommended) :

If your iPhone is already jailbroken at the current firmware (3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1), it will be a hassle free upgrade! Restore mode will work just fine with already jailbroken iPhones.

Step 1.1) Download Files for iPhone 3GS (Please read the following carefully)

p.s : I am paying for these downloads (purchased RapidShare Download traffic due to overwhelming demand). Please consider donating to keep these downloads free and instantaneous. Thank you…

OR

Step 1.2) Download Files for iPhone 3G (Please read the following carefully)

OR

Step 1.3) Download Files for iPhone 2G (Please read the following carefully)

OR

Step 2) Join the downloaded files

  • The files downloaded above have an extension .001 and .002. They need a special opensource (free) software HJSplit to join.
  • Download HJSplit to join both the files – Link for Windows Computers here and Macs here.

Step 3) Restore the firmware in iTunes 9.x

  • You should now have the respective firmware file with an extension .ipsw (make sure it is .ipsw or else, it will give you an invalid firmware error) . Follow the steps in order :
  • 1)Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac / Windows computer.
  • 2)If your iPhone is already jailbroken (if you see Cydia on your iPhone!), put your device in Restore mode (Turn iPhone off, keep holding Home button while you plug it in to your computer). Proceed to step 7. If not jailbroken already, continue to the next step (3).
  • 3)If you are aware of DFU mode, proceed further. If not, watch this quick video and pay close attention to the steps to achieve DFU mode.
  • 4)Turn your iPhone off. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
  • 5)After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  • 6)The iPhone will show you a blank screen (black).
  • 7)Click on ‘Ok’ to the prompt displayed.
  • 8)For a Mac : Hold Option key and then hit Restore button.
  • 9)For Windows : Hold the shift key and then hit the restore button.
  • 10)In the dialog box that pops up, browse the downloaded custom firmware file (the .ipsw file that you downloaded and joined using hjsplit in step 1.x).

Step 4) Give it few minutes to perform the restore. Once the iPhone is up and running, proceed for software Unlock using Cydia. Follow this guide to install Ultrasn0w to software unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS. iPhone 2G is already unlocked with this custom firmware!

You are now good to go! Post a comment if you are stuck at any of the steps described above.

[Pwnage Tool is developed by the Dev Team. This is just a custom firmware file created using that tool especially for Windows users cos’ Pwnage tool is available only for Macs.]

I have a 3GS on 3.01. I activated on official (AT&T) SIM and then used redsn0w and Ultrasn0w to JB and Unlock it. I have since then broken my official contract with AT&T and use T-Mobile on my iphone. Since it was officially activated, I still can use Push Notifications without any issues. Now in order to upgrade to 3.1.2, can I upgrade using the official contract files and then use my friend's AT&T SIM (he has a 3G and still in contract) to activate it and then Unlock it? Will this work, so as I can keep my Pusg Notifications?

Yep, that would be a smart move! Go for it, you have nothing to lose here. Make sure the baseband remains intact though.

    I have iphone 3gs v3.1

I tried many ways to jailbreak my phone with the custom firmware but nothing worked, i keep gettin 16XX errors. So i updated with itunes to v3.1.2 then used the amazing blackra1n to jailbreak in 30 seconds. Then i took my device to recovery mode and used the custom firmware worked like a charm.

Note: I use iphone on offical network, and i heard that blackra1n isn't stable so thats why i changed to iPhone Dev team cuswtom firmware.

What is the error message? Was your iPhone previously jailbroken? Did you try the DFU mode or Restore mode?

Code 1602 or 1604. It was previously jailbroken and unlocked. I had to retore it to 3.1.2 which erased all of that. Should i jailbreak before I using the ipsw or try downloading the ipsw again?

What SIM were you using? What errors did you get?

Since it is 2G, you are in luck. Why not try blackra1n after you upgrade to 3.1.2 officially?

Hello, I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB white, FirmWare 3.1.2, baseband 5.11, unlocked from factory, OS: MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.1, I just want to jailbreak my iPhone. I tried with PwnageTool 3.1.4 with a custom firmware (also 3.1.2 – custom made with PwnageTool 3.1.4), everything was ok but at the final restart of the iPhone it got stuck in DFU mode (black screen), so i had to restore the original 3.1.2 firmware and now my iPhone is like it was when I bought it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, I followed the instructions but still getting: Error 1604. I got a new Iphone 3g (8G) Restore with the 3.1.2. normal apple firmware with itunes. Since I bought it without a contract I could only see the: Emergency Call screen. Then put the Iphone in DFU and start with the instruction on Windows Vista, at the end the error mentioned. I also deleted the file in C:/*UsersName*/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunesDevice Support/ any clues??

I replied to your first comment and I saw repeated comments.

Since your iPhone is factory unlocked, try blackra1n. It is the simplest and fastest option for your iPhone.

I tried a couple of days ago with blackra1n but also got stuck in DFU mode. I also tried to put the iPhone manually in DFU mode and restore via iTunes from my custom FW but i received the 16xx error.
I don`t know what to do
        Thanks anyway!!!

Did you get to 3.1.2 and then try blackra1n?

I had 3.1.2 from factory (i had 3.1.2 when tried blackra1n), but after that I downgraded to 3.1 but same thing, and then I downgraded to 3.0.1 but same thing. I have no idea what's wrong, i read thousands of forums and tried everything. It ''works'' only with blackra1n but only until first restart!

i also tried with the custom activated firmware 3.1.2 from your site but i got the 16xx error in iTunes. I tried to bypass the error with iH8sn0w but it crashes after the pop up error appears in iTunes.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I have downloaded both and the activated won't work for some reason (can't detect att network). I then downloaded the notactivated and installed that. After installation, it asked me to plug it to PC and itunes then activated it.

I read somewhere that if itunes activated the iphone, I will sign up to att data plan automatically but it hasn't as yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed still.

Thanks for the files btw. I had 1600 errors but after reading how to resolve it, it worked beautifully.

Hello, I've got a following problem: I've got an iPhone 3G with 3.0 Software and 04.26.08. The problem is I do not have an at&t contract, except my gophone prepaid sim I took off from one of their gophones. I do have another sim card from at&t that is also a pre-paid card, but not assigned to any phone. I would like to use one of these sim cards for the time I am in the US, and when I'm going back to europe, I would like to use anothe card. When I got the phone, it was a new, not activated, not jailbroken, not unlocked. I started to do my research on this, so I did everything with iClarified tutorials, I have successfuly ( I think ) jailbroken my phone, then with ultrasn0w unlocked it, ( successfuly too, it is installed in cydia ). The problem is, that everytime I restar the phone ( switch it off, then back off ) it keeps saying: Waiting for activation, it may take some time, so basically the basic message when you pop your sim card in without jailbreaking and unlocking the phone. Now, what could I do wrong, why I don't get any service, can I restore my phone to one of customade software versions, with the same baseband that has been activated. My question is, what can I do to activate this phone, so any card can work with it. Thanks !

p.s. I figured out, that during jailbreaking I might get the phone into recovery mode, not dfu mode. Could this cause only the instalation of cydia, but not jailbreking it ? Apps form cydia, work fine, I can download them and use them.

Since you are using ATT, I recommend NotActivated firmware. Then you will get a signal… For other carriers, it is ActivatedFirmware…
