Download Custom Firmware 3.1.3 IPSW – Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS [Mac + Windows]

9 February 2010 356 Comments

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION : Please leave a comment if you don’t know what you are doing. Better safe than sorry. You are warned, now proceed!

iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS users can now safely update to 3.1.3 firmware without updating the baseband (for unlock). If you are not the one to download all the various files and just want the ultimate result, these files are waiting for you to download! If you rather want to start from scratch, download Pwnage 3.1.5 tool for Mac.

  • Caution #1 : A restore is going to wipe the iPhone clean. Hence, please backup your iPhone using iTunes and then proceed.
  • SUPER CAUTION : iPhone 3GS Owners, please read this thoroughly before proceeding further. If you are already at 3.1.3, this is not going to work. If you rely on blacksn0w for unlock (if you have 5.11.07 baseband, you are better off without 3.1.3 for now.
  • If you bought your iPhone recently (if it has the new bootrom, please stop right here). If the 4th, 5th digits are greater than 39, it is more than likely that it has the new bootrom.

More info about these custom firmware files :

  • Has factory boot logos (Apple and restore cable),
  • Only Cydia, 660 MB Root Partition
  • Preserved Unlock baseband (Your current baseband – be it 4.26.08 or 5.11.07 will stay the same)
  • Activated/Not Activated (Check the files carefully)

Prerequisite (highly recommended) :

If your iPhone is already jailbroken at the current firmware (3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1), it will be a hassle free upgrade! Restore mode will work just fine with already jailbroken iPhones. So, try jailbreaking your iPhone before you proceed.

Step 1.1) Download Files for iPhone 3GS (Please read the following carefully)

p.s : I am paying for these downloads (purchased RapidShare Download traffic due to overwhelming demand). Please consider donating to keep these downloads free and instantaneous. Thank you…

OR

Step 1.2) Download Files for iPhone 3G (Please read the following carefully)

OR

Step 1.3) Download Files for iPhone 2G (Original iPhone with metal back)

Step 2) Join the downloaded files

  • The files downloaded above have an extension .001 and .002. They need a special opensource (free) software HJSplit to join.
  • Download HJSplit to join both the files – Link for Windows Computers here and Macs here.

Step 2a) Verify the final file size of the joined IPSW file

iPhone2_1_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw : 317,016,972 bytes
iPhone2_1_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_NotActivated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw : 316,692,322 bytes
iPhone1_2_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw : 251,356,403 bytes
iPhone1_2_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_NotActivated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw : 251,025,149 bytes

p.s : Mac [Snow Leopard] and Windows and other OSes may show the same file as different sizes in their respective systems since 1 MB is treated as 1000 KB in some OSes and 1024 KB in the rest!

Step 3) Restore the firmware in iTunes 9.x

  • You should now have the respective firmware file with an extension .ipsw (make sure it is .ipsw or else, it will give you an invalid firmware error) . Follow the steps in order :
  • 1)Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac / Windows computer.
  • 2)If your iPhone is already jailbroken (if you have Cydia on your iPhone), put your device in Restore mode (Turn iPhone off, keep holding Home button while you plug it in to your computer). Proceed to step 7. If not jailbroken already, continue to the next step (3).
  • 3)If you are aware of DFU mode, proceed further. If not, watch this quick video and pay close attention to the steps to achieve DFU mode.
  • 4)Turn your iPhone off. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
  • 5)After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  • 6)The iPhone will show you a blank screen (black).
  • 7)Click on ‘Ok’ to the prompt displayed.
  • 8)For a Mac : Hold Option key and then hit Restore button.
  • 9)For Windows : Hold the shift key and then hit the restore button.
  • 10)In the dialog box that pops up, browse the downloaded custom firmware file (the .ipsw file that you downloaded and joined using hjsplit in step 1.x).

Step 4) Give it few minutes to perform the restore. Once the iPhone is up and running, proceed for software Unlock using Cydia. Follow this guide to install Ultrasn0w (for 4.26.08 baseband) to software unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS. If you have 5.11.07 baseband, blacksn0w RC2/RC3 (thanks Neema) should be used for unlock!

You are now good to go! Post a comment if you are stuck at any of the steps described above.

[Pwnage Tool is developed by the Dev Team. This is just a custom firmware file created using that tool especially for Windows users cos’ Pwnage tool is available only for Macs.]

  • Kiran said:

Did you join the files? The resulting file should have a .ipsw extension. Place the file on the desktop and then do a shift + restore and locate.

All you have to do is download the program for Windows from the link provided (which you did I presume).

    1) Now open/launch the program.
    2) You should see 'join files' button/option.
    3) Click it and point to the .001 file (first ipsw file you downloaded) and it will take care of the rest!

Let me know if it works…

  • nick said:

    hey kathleen
    sure
just download hjsplit and click join then click on the input file then choose the first part you downloaded
and the 1st and 2nd part must be together just choose the 1st part and click open
then choose where u want to save the file by click output file
then click start then it will create the package and u can restore
and listen b4 restoring dont forget to end process the ipodservices from the taskmanager do this after opening i tunes other wise u will get n error while restoring

Thank you so much dude, worked like a charm on my iPhone 3GS which was on v3.1.2 Baseband 5.12.XX. BTW, did all of this on a Windows XP Pro based Gateway machine running Windows Vista Ultimate x64-Bit.

(YES I WAS ONE OF THOSE WHO MISTAKENLY UPDATED TO 3.1.3 BEFORE A JAILBREAK WAS AVAILABLE, BUT LUCKILY FOR ME, I HAD SAVED MY SHSHs WITH THE CYDIA SERVER SO I WAS ABLE TO DOWNGRADE BACK TO 3.1.2 AND USE MY PHONE LIKE AN iPOD TOUCH WITH GPS CAPABILITY UNTIL AN UNLOCK WAS RELEASED)

my friend has accidently restored his factory unlocked iphone 2G.. Now its stuck with connect to itunes screen with a pop message saying..NO sim card installed. insert a valid sim with no pin lock to activate iphone… Pls HELP!!!

  • jorge said:

Re-connect your friends iphone to itunes and run a custom firmware into it by downloading one from the internet.. then hit alt and restore on itunes and choose the custom firmware you downloaded and this will temporarily get rid of that message then when his phone restores remove it from the usb cable then re-connect it and re-do the restore with the normal firmware that itunes provides this will fix the problem… apart from the fact he will have to do the jailbreak again… i hope this helps:)

    Hello,
    Thanks for writing the instructions.

I have iPhone 3G with 4 & 5 digits 35, baseband 05.11.07. It is officially unlocked by my provider. The phone is running JB 3.0.1 and I can't remember which tools were used to JB the phone. It crashes regularly and asks for springboard restart. I feel I need to upgrade JB to 3.1.3 as it also provides tethering

Will your instructions work on my phone?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a iphone 3g 4.0 firmware, the phone was jail broken and unlocked when I got it. It is too slow that sometimes I think like slamming it against the wall. Can I use the above ipsw files to downgrade my 4.0 to 3.1.3? I am using window 7 64bit.

    Thanks

Help,i cant join the 2 files..HJSplit isnt finding any of the split files when i locate input files..help!

  • Kiran said:

The files have 0.001 extensions. Only the first one should be located for hjsplit to work on the remaining ones. Put all files in one central location, preferable Desktop?

hi, i am a new iphone user, i have an iphone 3GS FW 3.1.3 and my phone is locked to AT&T carrier but i dont have the Sim card , what shall i do if i want to restore and stay at 3.1.3 ?
can i upgrade to FW 4.0.1 or only to the latest FW 4.2.1? and how if possible?
    Thanks.

  • Kiran said:

It depends on if you ever installed Cydia before or used TinyUmbrella to save the SHSH files. If not, then I am afraid there isn't a possibility. You can certainly go to 4.2.1 but if you want to unlock it, then we may have to do things slightly different. It depends on the computer – Windows or Mac?

try this: Before getting into the custom firmware above download firmware 3.1.3 from any website with apple firmwares. Put iPhone in DFU mode and connect to itunes 9.x. IT HAS TO BE ITUNES 9 TO WORK. when the iphone 3g is done restoreing you will get an error. DONT WORRY ITS NORMAL! Just click ok and let itunes do its magic. Shortly it will as you to restore the Phone Again. DONT!!!!!!!! Minimize itunes and go to google and search RecBoot. Look for the softwear and download it. Extract to your desktop or where ever you would like, and go into the RecBoot Folder and click the Exit Tool Batch File. A command prompt window will pop up and kick your iphone 3g out of recovery mode. let it do its Magic Might take a few min. Then your iphone will disconnect from your pc and connect back, leave it plugged in and it should shortly connect to itunes and you should see the iphone screen say its been activated and connected successfuly. Congrats, you now have a downgraded 3.1.3 iPhone 3g. Now try it with the above firmware. Hope this helped.

  • Robert H. said:

Click SHIFT RESTORE to navigate to the 3.1.3 firmware you have downloaded and click ok. Sorry i forgot this little detail.
