How to Jailbreak your iPhone 4 Online, Cool Free Cydia Apps List [Guide]

iPhone 4, despite its signal woes is a beast when it comes to processing power and pure, raw speed (a lil’ better than 3GS). Jailbreaking iPhone 4 will give you access to themes, productive tools, unlock and more. I tested this approach with a 3GS, 3G and iPhone 4. It is a multi-iPhone jailbreak and requires no computer access! It is the same as described here but I wanted to document Cydia apps for iPhone 4.

Initially, I was unsure if Cydia is even needed for iPhone 4 with multitasking, wallpaper features enabled. We sure do need jailbreak to overcome outrageous Apple limitations! Without further ado, lets go :

Jailbreak part :

  • Make sure your iPhone is activated. It is not possible without a valid iPhone SIM. If you don’t have one, please wait until another tool is released.
  • Make sure you sync your iPhone to iTunes. This is important, just in case you know!
  • If your iPhone is activated, you are 60 seconds away from a jailbreak. Connect to WiFi and launch Safari on your iPhone.
  • Type in ‘jailbreakme.com’ in Safari and swipe the ‘slide to jailbreak’ button.
  • Give it few seconds to do its thing! iPhone 4 will be jailbroken within no time! You will see Cydia icon on your homescreen when done.

Cydia part :

  • Launch Cydia and choose ‘user’ when prompted to choose user type.
  • Now, time for some cool apps on Cydia. Click on ‘Search’ and install the following apps. I am testing all the important apps. Some are crashing the iPhone! Please don’t download any and every Cydia app, some might harm/damage your iPhone. Following work great. Will update the list and add more info/description screenshots once I have a sizable list.
  • Please post a comment if you feel a Cydia app or a theme shoulg be included in this list.

SBSettings

Winterboard

Apply nice themes on your iPhone. Just the wallpaper support in iOS 4 doesn’t cut it!

OpenSSH

Connect to your iPhone using WiFi and transfer files or perform other operations (emergency). Trust me, you will need it!

MxTube

Save your bandwidth! Download those videos that you watch often on YouTube. You can download multiple videos at great quality or just stream.

MobileTerminal

You will need this in some situations. If you don’t know what this is, then please install it and forget that you even have it.

    When you jailbreak an iphone, it adds the cydia icon. Cydia is a repository like the App store. It lets you install Apps and modification tools that Apple does not want you to have like themes to change the looks of your phone among other things.

    Antenna issue is hardware related. Jailbreak adds some awesome features. I provided a list of essential(ish) Cydia apps that adds a lot of value to an otherwise boring iPhone!

    Hi,I've done everything above but I can't seem to download mxtube. It states that I need another program to support it but it doesn't state. When I do a restore backup, all my apps in my itunes can't be sync back into the phone. It's frustrating. Please help. Thanks.

    MxTube has a problem with iOS 4. The developer released it in the appstore but Apple took it down I guess. Will keep you posted on the status. What apps were you trying to restore – appstore apps or cydia apps?

    I just recently purchased the iphone4 and have heard many many conflicting thing about jailbreaking! I question alot of these things. I do have a question that maybe someone can help me with. I do not like the fact that even though my phone is locked with password, when receving a txt is shows that person(s) name on home screen. is there a way to keep that from happening or ive heard there is a way to put some sorta fake home screen that can maybe hide that. If anyone have any suggestions, pls let me know. thank yo in advance.

    there is a way. you updated to the 4.2.1 update from apple which has made it alomost impossible to to jailbreak for some time although there methods availble using more than one jailbreak tools from different hackers. you will need the latest itunes downloaded. latest redsnow release and latest snowbreeze jailbreak tools which you can download via google. you will then have to restore you iphone through itunes to the latest 4.2.1 update so itunes downloads the .ipsw file from iphone. then you must use snowbreeze to build a custom .ipsw file. then jailbreak iphone using redsnow. then enter into restore mode and restor to custom .ipsw file then download ultrasnow through cydia and you will have an unlocked iphone using any sim and untehtered jailbroken for 4.2.1

    Unfortunately, the only option you have right now is "tethered jailbreak" @ 4.3.5 for which you have to use redsn0w on your PC.
