downgrade, iPhone 3.0, itunes, jailbreak »

[1 Jun 2009 | 28 Comments | ]

Apple released iTunes 8.2 just in time for a probable iPhone 3.0 release at WWDC ’09. While iTunes 8.2 adds support for iPhone 3.0 goodness, it strips iPhone off of all the Jailbreak excitement! If you upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, you will no longer be able to Jailbreak the iPhone nor use SSH over USB. Apple changed some protocols in MobileDevice framework which resulted in panic-mode amongst the jailbreak community! The added security implemented some serious checks on the device hardware/software (security epoch, chipid, security domain, production …

Its been a while since I wrote a post, mainly owing to a ‘student -> real world job’ situation! Frankly speaking, I am not too much into beta stuff from Apple ( I do try them but I don’t think it makes sense to post hacks detailing those developer only builds). Anyway, here is something that caught my attention : Hulu. We all know Hulu’s free offerings and they made them even better by releasing a standalone client for Macs and PCs. The omission of Hulu from Boxee’s desktop client …

iPhone 3.0, jailbreak, QuickPwn, Windows »

The much sought after firmware iPhone 3.0 Beta 2 firmware with a snappier touch over the Beta 1 is finally jailbroken (only a day after it was released!). Thanks to the Russian hackers @ iPhoneApps.ru
It is more or less a patched version of QuickPwn not endorsed by the Dev Team though. You get icy (from installer guys) on your iPhone and from there on you can put Cydia via SSH on your iPhone once you install openSSH.
I repeat, this jailbreak is intended only to those enrolled in the developer program. …

Update : Skype application crash issues on Jailbroken iPhones are now resolved. Launch Cydia and update!
Amidst much speculation, Skype for iPhone has been officially released. There used to be some alternatives to Skype till recently but none of those can be as good as an app from Skype themselves.
Frustratingly enough, Skype app is crash-prone, it crashes way too much at this stage. Cydia quickly released a Mobile Substrate patch to avoid repeated application crash issues. Launch Cydia and refresh it to find the update. I have used Skype on WiFi …

The evil AT&T is at it again, this time with an even cheaper tactic to hose the average user. They have announced a contract-free iPhone 3G for a whopping $599/$699 (8GB/16GB) with a possible 32GB iPhone round the block(June ’09). Since they are still locking you with AT&T though without a contract, it is a lame idea by AT&T.
So how in the world are developers, tech-enthusiasts, T-Mobile lovers exposed to this amazing Apple’s offering? Well, Microsoft to the rescue and some crazy-ass tactics to hit AT&T hard, real hard 😉

Lets …

Backup, Cydia »

Backing up Cydia apps has always been a pain! Different implementations exist with little or no success. I recently lost all my Cydia Apps since I thought I backed them up just fine (using AptBackup which can be installed from Cydia). How to save hours trying to get back all the apps installed in Cydia? And here goes the step by step guide to achieve it :
Test environment : I have used AptBackup while restoring iPhone 3G from 2.2 to 2.2.1 firmware on a Mac. I used iTunes 8.0.2.
And here …

I have been using RichardSolo 1800 for quite some time now and all I have to say is it packs quite a punch when it comes to holding the charge and charging the iPhone efficiently. Mophie juice pack performed great when it came to performance and the real winner may be decided on the design. RichardSolo, despite being compact had a terrible implementation. Just imagine using an iPod Nano to charge your iPhone! The connection can be very unstable since it is latched at the end of the iPhone and …

Slumdog Millionaire signed off in style at the Oscars this year. AR Rehman, the music director for this scinitillating adventure provided some remarkable scores which you may want your iPhone to sing them to you from time to time! I tried my best creating few ringtones which may be suited for personalizing tones to wake you from bed or alert you on your loved one’s calls. You may want to create some nice ringtones yourselves if using a Mac by following this simple guide. You may download all the ringtones by …

The guys who gave us the good old installer.app are at it again, this time by providing a simple and easy to use client for transferring files to the iPhone via USB rather than WiFi which has been the norm for quite some time! This method is a god send to those having WiFi issues (hardware) or have no access to a wireless router. Now you can easily install an application without having to resort to WiFi timeout issues or availability issues. Transfer music, e-books, even bootloader files via this …

2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, 3G, Baseband, unlock »

[19 Feb 2009 | 6 Comments | ]

If you have to just modify the iPhone 3G baseband to 2.28 without updating the firmware to 2.2 or 2.2.1, this is the easiest method to follow! The main reason for only upgrading the baseband to 2.28 is to achieve software unlock and still preserving all the jailbreak apps and appstore apps on the iPhone 3G. This has nothing to do with downgrading the baseband from 2.30 to 2.28 though.
Steps required in order :
1) Download ICE2_02.28.00.eep, ICE2_02.28.00.fls, BBUpdaterExtreme from this rapidshare link

2) Make sure your iPhone 3G is jailbroken and …
