Apple released iOS 4.2 for the masses finally. While it does some nice things on an iPad, there isn’t much for iPhone 3G/3GS/4 if you are happy with the current jailbreak+unlock.
You are urged to download TinyUmbrella and save your current firmware SHSH files. It is available on multiple platforms (Linux, Mac, Windows). The SHSH window for signing your firmware version is almost closed, so better hurry.
Cydia for 4.2 firmware doesn’t even work the traditional way, nor is there an unlock available as of this writing. So, kindly ignore the iOS …

3G, 3GS, Error, reboot, Redsn0w »

[20 Jul 2009 | 24 Comments | ]

I was trying to Jailbreak an iPhone 2G, iPod Touch using redsn0w 0.9 and interestingly enough, had the same issue “stuck at Waiting to reboot” message in redsn0w in both instances. I tried both Mac OS X Leopard and Win XP with no avail.
UPDATE : I faced the same issue with iPhone 3G and 3GS too! Fortunately enough, it has a simple solution.
Solution : When you see the ‘Waiting for reboot’ message in redsn0w, unplug the USB cable from the iPhone and plug it back in! Weird but it worked …

battery, iPhone 3G, Review »

I have been using RichardSolo 1800 for quite some time now and all I have to say is it packs quite a punch when it comes to holding the charge and charging the iPhone efficiently. Mophie juice pack performed great when it came to performance and the real winner may be decided on the design. RichardSolo, despite being compact had a terrible implementation. Just imagine using an iPod Nano to charge your iPhone! The connection can be very unstable since it is latched at the end of the iPhone and …

3G, battery, iPhone 3G, Review »

Mophie Juice Pack is an absolute godsend given the fact that my iPhone 3G repeatedly gave up on me on numerous occassions. What good is all the technology if it cannot last for one day ( I mean 9 AM to 9PM at the least!) with regular usage (Emails, Camera, Apps, Safari, GPS) ? I started using the iPhone less frequently when I am on the go ( on a trip, …) trying to preserve the battery but doesn’t it defeat the purpose of owning the BEST gadget on planet …

Just a shout to those early adopters who stood in line for an iPhone and got a new line activated such that the contract can be terminated after a month by paying the ETF ($175) and owning the device without an enormously huge data plan requirement! Things get really interesting now! What if you slide a SIM with iPhone 2G plan into the 3G iPhone – will we be able to save $15 every month by gaining 200 free SMS messages and 2G data plan pricing!

In effect, for a 16GB …

iFixit has done what they are so good in – cracking open to find the traces of hardware used! They travelled all the way to Auckland to lay their hands on the 3G iPhone which was released first in NZ for a change (time zone game!). Hardware is so much more sophisticated if not for way too many changes. Just that you don’t need to be an electronics major now to use the solder iron the iPhone 3G.

Quick Updates :
3G, GPS, Better Battery Life, Thinner, Same size Screen, No Copy / Paste Support Yet, iPhone 2.0 Firmware released Early July (11th Supposedly).
Best part : Affordability. $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) – Technology can never be more affordable! July 11th – Lines and lines and lines as usual! No news of ATT contracts, hence the same old story of Jailbreaking/Unlocking might persist here as well. Too bad all those who forked out $499 for a 16GB might end up losing some BIG bucks given the $299 pricepoint for its elder brother.
